Fire Update: Franschhoek26 January 2026 | 08:30Firefighting operations continue in the mountains above Franschhoek, led by the Cape Winelands District Municipality Fire Services with CapeNature and the Winelands Fire Protection Association.The fire, first reported on 17 January, is largely contained, but one active fire line remains at the top of the Banghoek Valley. Two ground teams were deployed on Sunday to contain the fire as it moved into more accessible terrain. Efforts will now focus on protecting the Banghoek Valley, despite extremely steep and dangerous conditions.An aerial crew from Leading Edge will deploy ground teams from NCC, CapeNature and MTO Forestry, and conduct a reconnaissance flight to assess the full extent of the fire.A related fire line in the Overberg area is being managed by Overberg District Fire Services.Further updates will be shared as needed.
