Statement by Executive Mayor Jeremy Fasser
We are thrilled to announce that Stellenbosch Municipality has received a Clean Audit Opinion from the Auditor General of South Africa for the 2023/24 financial year – a true reflection of our commitment to excellence, transparency, and good governance.
This incredible milestone is a testament to the dedication, integrity, and hard work of Team Stellenbosch! I extend my heartfelt gratitude to:
- Our Council, for their steadfast leadership and oversight.
- The Municipal Manager and Directors, for their strategic vision and strong management.
- Every employee, across all levels, for your tireless efforts in ensuring our municipality operates at the highest standard.
As Executive Mayor, I firmly believe that a clean audit means public funds are being managed correctly and are going towards improving the lives of our people. This achievement is more than a procedural success—it signifies our resilience and commitment to accountability, particularly at a time when many municipalities across the country face significant financial challenges.
Good governance and strong financial management form the backbone of our ability to deliver efficient and reliable services to all residents. Through sound financial planning, fiscal discipline, and rigorous internal controls, we have once again demonstrated that public trust is our top priority.
I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. This clean audit reflects the shared vision of our councillors, officials, and community members to uphold the highest standards of governance.
While we celebrate this achievement, we also recognise the need for continuous improvement. I invite all residents to remain engaged and vigilant, helping us sustain and build upon this success. Together, we can ensure Stellenbosch Municipality remains clean, stable, and sustainable, setting an example for others across the nation.
