REQUEST TO REDUCE WATER USAGE DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF LOAD SHEDDING

REQUEST TO REDUCE WATER USAGE DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF LOAD SHEDDING

Stellenbosch Municipality calls for reduced water usage due to the effects of load-shedding.

With continued high stages of load shedding, Stellenbosch Municipality’s water supply operations are being affected, in spite of the contingency measures. An appeal is herewith made to residents to reduce water usage to mitigate the effect of load shedding.

The longer we have to contend with load shedding, the greater the potential impact on our infrastructure, in spite of our best efforts. We therefore call on residents and businesses to please be extra mindful of their water use over this time. While we have to be water-wise at all times, load-shedding is an added complication that requires even more resolve.

Flushing during load shedding puts an inordinate strain on infrastructure which was never designed to be turned on and off many times a day.  Residents are therefore requested to be mindful when using bathroom facilities.

The Department Water and Wastewater continuously monitors the level of risk to our infrastructure and will communicate with our residents once the situation has improved.
