⚠️🚧 The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure is closely monitoring the Franschhoek Pass due to a high risk of landslides and/or rockfalls. The pass will be closed by 18:00 tonight, 10 July, but could close earlier if necessary. The earliest reopening will be at 10:00 tomorrow morning, 11 July, if deemed safe. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes and allow for extra travel time.

The Western Cape Education Department has announced that schools will be closed in certain areas tomorrow.

All public ordinary and special schools in the following education districts will be closed
on Thursday, 11 July 2024, as a result of the severe storm warnings for these areas:

• Metro Central Education District
• Metro East Education District
• Metro North Education District
• Metro South Education District
• Cape Winelands Education District
• Overberg Education District
• Circuit 1 and 2 of the West Coast Education District (Malmesbury and Picketberg
areas)

Franschhoek Bastille 2024 Celebrations Postponed to New Dates: 20 & 21 July

In an urgent update, event organisers, following consultations with disaster and risk management, have been advised to postpone the Iconic Bastille 2024 celebrations to new dates, 20th & 21st July. This decision prioritises guest safety amidst severe weather warnings and anticipated disruptive rain this week.

Stellenbosch lies roughly 50 km to the east of Cape Town and is - after the Mother City - the oldest town in South Africa.

The 900 square kilometres municipal area is internationally renowned for its beautiful environment, many places of interest, wine farms, street cafes, restaurants, quality wines, historical buildings and excellent educational institutions.

The major portion of the area is utilised for agriculture (mainly wine production) and it includes the major towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek as well as settlements such as Klapmuts, Koelenhof, Kylemore, Johannesdal, Pniel, Kayamandi, Cloetesville, Ida’s Valley, Jamestown and Raithby.
