On this significant Women’s Day, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all the incredible women in our beautiful Valley. This day is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and contributions of South African women throughout our history. We honor the heroines of our past who fought tirelessly for the freedoms and rights we enjoy today.

As we celebrate womanhood, we recognize and appreciate the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, nieces, aunts, daughters, step-mothers, step-daughters, cousins, and young girls who make our organization and towns exceptional. Each one of you plays a vital role in shaping our community, and today, we celebrate you.

Our journey toward equal rights has been long and challenging, but it is a journey we remain committed to. We will continue to strive for a society where all women are safe, protected from gender-based violence and femicide, and receive equal treatment in workplaces. Together, we can create a world where every woman can thrive.

As the renowned Maya Angelou once said, “Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.”

If you are taking advantage of the long weekend, please travel safely and return to us safely on Monday morning. Let us all cherish this day and continue to support and uplift one another.

Warm regards,

Mayor Gesie

Vriendelike groete,

Burgemeester Gesie

Welcome

Stellenbosch lies roughly 50 km to the east of Cape Town and is - after the Mother City - the oldest town in South Africa.

The 900 square kilometres municipal area is internationally renowned for its beautiful environment, many places of interest, wine farms, street cafes, restaurants, quality wines, historical buildings and excellent educational institutions.

The major portion of the area is utilised for agriculture (mainly wine production) and it includes the major towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek as well as settlements such as Klapmuts, Koelenhof, Kylemore, Johannesdal, Pniel, Kayamandi, Cloetesville, Ida’s Valley, Jamestown and Raithby.
