The municipality has noted the numerous queries regarding the Transvalia building on Dorp Street, Stellenbosch. We are currently finalising the detailed specifications and requirements necessary for the development and preservation of this beautiful heritage building. The tender will be advertised soon. We appreciate the interest and patience of residents and interest groups in this project.

The municipality is aware of false claims being spread by certain individuals and political parties regarding the ownership of the Lapland municipal apartments and flats. These sources allege that municipal flats were sold years ago. This is entirely false. Municipal apartments and flats remain owned and managed by the municipality. We urge residents to be cautious of misinformation spread for political purposes and invite any municipal flat resident with queries to visit our offices.

Welcome

Stellenbosch lies roughly 50 km to the east of Cape Town and is - after the Mother City - the oldest town in South Africa.

The 900 square kilometres municipal area is internationally renowned for its beautiful environment, many places of interest, wine farms, street cafes, restaurants, quality wines, historical buildings and excellent educational institutions.

The major portion of the area is utilised for agriculture (mainly wine production) and it includes the major towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek as well as settlements such as Klapmuts, Koelenhof, Kylemore, Johannesdal, Pniel, Kayamandi, Cloetesville, Ida’s Valley, Jamestown and Raithby.
