Stellenbosch Municipality facilitated an urgent meeting with Eskom in the Mayor’s Boardroom yesterday afternoon to address the ongoing power outages affecting Eskom direct-supply customers who remain without electricity following the recent storm and severe wind events. While municipal electricity infrastructure can often be restored quickly by our teams, repairs to Eskom-owned infrastructure can take considerably longer, as only Eskom personnel are authorised to work on their network. This understandably leaves many residents frustrated and without power for extended periods.Although these outages fall within Eskom’s area of responsibility, the Municipality remains committed to assisting wherever possible and ensuring that residents’ concerns are communicated directly to Eskom. We continue to engage with Eskom and support their efforts on the ground, while advocating for faster reconnections for affected communities.
