Municipal Court gets a new inverter system! This system was put in place to ensure that the critical operations of the court can continue uninterrupted during loadshedding or other power outages.

Stellenbosch Municipality is one of the few municipalities that has a dedicated Municipal Court to handle traffic violations and by-law transgressions. The newly installed inverter system ensures that the court’s work can proceed smoothly, regardless of load shedding.

The Municipality aims to create a safe environment for all who visit, live or work in Stellenbosch. In certain neighbourhoods however, thoroughfares have become crime hotspots, putting the safety of the community at risk.

The closure of the thoroughfare next to the Old Apostolic Church will improve safety in the area since many crimes have been committed here. A link between Eike- and Curry Streets via Quarry-or Long Streets is a safe alternative that can be used by pedestrians.

The closure and implementation of access control at the Williams Street thoroughfare comprises the installation of gates. Pedestrian movements will not be affected since the gates will be opened during the day and locked only at night. The local Neighbourhood Watch will assist the Municipality with access control.

Welcome

Stellenbosch lies roughly 50 km to the east of Cape Town and is - after the Mother City - the oldest town in South Africa.

The 900 square kilometres municipal area is internationally renowned for its beautiful environment, many places of interest, wine farms, street cafes, restaurants, quality wines, historical buildings and excellent educational institutions.

The major portion of the area is utilised for agriculture (mainly wine production) and it includes the major towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek as well as settlements such as Klapmuts, Koelenhof, Kylemore, Johannesdal, Pniel, Kayamandi, Cloetesville, Ida’s Valley, Jamestown and Raithby.
