In collaboration with Serve Stellenbosch, we proudly hosted our 2nd Annual Street Store Winter Readiness Outreach – a heartfelt initiative aimed at supporting persons living on the street and members of vulnerable communities.
An estimated 600 people attended this year’s event, receiving not only warm clothing, but something far more important – dignity and care.
Executive Mayor Jeremy Fasser attended the event and shared these powerful words:
“Today is about more than clothing. It is about care, dignity and community. The Street Store concept, which began in 2014 nationally, is a beautiful idea that offers homeless residents and those living on the margins a rare and vital experience: the ability to choose a winter outfit that they like, that fits and that restores some sense of personal agency and self-worth. This is not a handout; it is a hand-up – one that says: we see you, we value you and you matter.”
A special thank you to Serve Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch Night Shelter, U-Turn Ministries, Right to Care, Department of Social Development, ACVV, Helderberg Omgee, Shoprite Food Truck and the Stellenbosch Homeless Forum for your partnership in making this event a success.
