At the end of May, we witnessed a historic moment as Stellenbosch Municipality officially swore in its very first Junior Town Council (JTC)!

Today, our young leaders held their first official Junior Town Council Meeting – a full special council sitting where they were formally introduced to the Stellenbosch Municipal Council. During the session, they were officially welcomed, connected with councillors and tackled their first agenda items: rules of order and job shadowing opportunities.

Mayor Jeremy Fasser warmly welcomed the JTC, saying: “This initiative gives young leaders a seat at the table – empowering them to learn about the inner workings of local government, get involved in community outreach and represent the voices of their peers.”

We’re proud to introduce the newly elected leadership of the Junior Town Council:

Junior Mayor: Clayton Malgas – Franschhoek High School

Junior Deputy Mayor: Melvine Martin – Stellenzicht Secondary School

Speaker: Peyton Arendse – Rhenish Girls’ High School

Portfolio: Community Interaction: Riane Louw – Stellenbosch High School

Portfolio: Schools Outreach: Kayleigh Cass – Groendal Secondary School

We can’t wait to see the energy, ideas and positive impact they will bring to their schools and communities. The future is bright!
