Today, our Community Development Department partnered with the Stellenbosch Night Shelter and the Stellenbosch University Social Impact Initiative to welcome hundreds of first-year students – our newest residents – to our beautiful town.

Our engagement focused on the Give Responsibly Campaign, a longstanding initiative encouraging residents, businesses and students to make a meaningful difference by giving responsibly. Instead of giving cash to people on the streets, we urge everyone to give a Give Responsibly Coupon – a R10 coupon that guarantees a person in need a warm bed, a shower, a hot meal and access to social services at the Stellenbosch Night Shelter.

Residences we engaged with today include: Heemstede, Olympus, Sonop, Simonsberg and Oude Molen. A special thanks to Councillor Tamryn Kumm and Councillor Lwando Nkamisa for joining the conversation and inspiring students to be part of the solution.

To all students: You have the power to create lasting change! By choosing to #GiveResponsibly, you’re not just helping someone for a moment – you’re helping to break the cycle of homelessness.
