The Matric class of 2020 faced unprecedented challenges. Schools were closed for long periods at a time and uncertainty about the academic year caused fear and frustration for many. Students, teachers and parents had to adapt to new ways of learning through virtual platforms and this placed a lot of extra pressure on our matric class of 2020.

I want to congratulate the class of 2020 on their perseverance and the magnificent results obtained.  The hard work really did pay off for many of our learners! We are once again delighted to hear of the outstanding performances of learners and schools from our municipal area. We are proud to be home to several schools that consistently rank as some of the best performing schools in the country!

To those learners who didn’t do as well as they had hoped, this is not the end of the world. Far from it! See this as a small hurdle that will build character and grit. Support is available to you and I urge you to reach out to the Department of Education or your school counsellor to discuss the various options that are available to you. Regroup, study hard and rewrite those exams as soon as you can.

Congratulations to the class of 2020 and best of luck to the class of 2021 –  a group that might have an even tougher year and needs all the support they can get.
