More than one million meals have been provided to people within the broader Stellenbosch municipal area (WC024) since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was made possible through the incredible generosity and cooperation of several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), our partners at Stellenbosch Unite, Together Franschhoek, private donors, the Provincial Department of Local Government and the Stellenbosch Municipality.

Amazingly, this number excludes many meals provided by a number of NGO’s, churches and private companies. It also excludes food parcels and vouchers as well as meals provided to learners through school feeding programmes.

Stellenbosch Municipality wishes to thank each and every individual and organisation that played a part in making this possible. Funding was provided by the Provincial Department of Local Government, Stellenbosch Municipality and numerous private donors and organisations – including the many generous funders and partners of Together Franschhoek and Stellenbosch Unite.  Most of the NGOs involved in these initiatives fund food distribution via donations received from their private donors and benefactors.

During this challenging time of the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent national lockdown, our poor communities have been particularly hard hit and we are grateful for the immense outpouring of support to assist these communities. As a caring local government, we have made every effort within our legal framework to provide support to our residents in need. We encourage the continued support of these partners and NGOs.
