Stellenbosch Municipality Bursary Fund: Academic Year 2017

 

Stellenbosch Municipality budgeted for bursaries for learners residing in the Greater Stellenbosch municipal area (WC024). This is the Municipality’s contribution to the skills development process in the community.  The Municipality wants to attract top performing learners and learners with potential to succeed in Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in the areas such as finance, economics, accounting, supply chain management, internal audit, risk management, infrastructure.

Requirements to qualify for a bursary:

  1. Registration must be at a Higher Education Institution (HEI);
  2. Proof of residence in the Greater Stellenbosch municipal area (WC024);
  3. Proof of a recently passed Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with results;
  4. Proof of registration at a registered educational institution (2017);
  5. Learners from the designated Employment Equity groups, particularly women, Blacks (African, Coloured, and Indian) and disabled persons will receive preference.

All applications must be accompanied by certified copies of students’ academic records.

Learners are invited to apply for the bursaries by submitting a detailed curriculum vitae and a certified copy of their Identity Document.  Applications must be addressed and submitted to the Head: Skills Development, Human Resource Services, Municipal offices, 71 Plein Street, Ecclesia Building, Stellenbosch or can be posted to Stellenbosch Municipality, PO Box 17, Stellenbosch, 7599.

The closing date for applications is Monday, 26 June 2017 at 15h00.

 

Please note: Applications must be hand-delivered or posted and must reach Stellenbosch Municipality before or on the specified due date and time. Faxed and/or e-mailed applications will not be considered. Should there be no feedback received by or before 31 July 2017, applicants may assume that their applications have been unsuccessful.  Stellenbosch Municipality is under no obligation to award a bursary to anyone.

Mayor Gesie Van Deventer handed over awards and prizes at the Private Hotel School in Vlottenburg on 15 June 2017.

Two students were nominated by the lecturers for always going the extra mile in class. Thandi Ntshawuzana received the first prize and Sydney Du Plessis the second prize.

“This is your time to shine, go out, work hard and make a success of yourselves”, was the motivational and encouraging message from the Executive Mayor Gesie van Deventer.

Die afgelope tyd is daar baie geskryf en gesê oor die oprig van sellulêre kommunikasie infrastruktuur of te wel selfoontorings in die groter Stellenbosch omgewing. Ek is oorval met boodskappe met verskillende opinies hieroor en kommentaar wat vir en teen die oprig van hierdie torings is.

Na vergaderings met belangegroepe hieroor het ons tot die gevolgtrekking gekom dat die opstel van ‘n beleid hieroor noodsaaklik is. Die vinnige uitbreiding van die telekommunikasie industrie het ‘n enorme behoefte en aanvraag geskep vir die oprig van hierdie tipe infrastruktuur. Die tipe dienste wat sellulêre en draadlose (wi-fi) kommunikasie verskaf het ook ‘n belangrike dryfveer en hulpbron geword in ekonomiese ontwikkeling. Die installering van infrastruktuur wat dit dus moontlik maak is belangrik.

Ons woon egter in ‘n historiese omgewing, wat gekenmerk word deur die argitektuur, kultuur en ander erfenis komponente wat beskerm moet word. Daarom is dit belangrik dat wanneer tegnologiese verandering plaasvind, dit soveel as moontlik in harmonie met ons bestaande omgewing gebeur.

Om al die kwelpunte wat die publiek onder ons aandag gebring het in ag te neem en seker te maak dat enige toekomstige besluite tot die bes moontlike voordeel van ons dorpe sal plaasvind, het die munisipaliteit nou ‘n konsepbeleid saamgestel. Die beleid sal die riglyne daar stel vir toekomstige oprig van sellulêre infrastruktuur. Die konsepbeleid is nou beskikbaar vir openbare kommentaar en insette vanaf die publiek.  Ek wil graag alle inwoners aanmoedig om die konsepdokument te bestudeer en hul insette hierop in te dien.
